Hi everyone! My name is Kylee McDermott and I am a Junior at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. I am working towards a major in Tourism Management . This summer I have been given the opportunity to intern at Five Grain Events. My whole life I have been struggling with the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” and it only took a few recent vacation trips to point me in the right direction. What I mean by this, is that I helped my mom plan out our last few family vacation trips and I immediately found myself invested in organizing everything. I fell in love with creating an agenda and figuring out what were the best hotels, restaurants, attractions to go to with our family. It was awesome to see all my hard work go towards something everyone enjoyed and that is when I realized I can make a career out of event planning.
To have this amazing opportunity to work at Five Grain Events this summer with Joan and her team is something I could not be more excited about. I cannot wait to see what it is like to work at a company where they have to consider every detail and plan out such an extravagant day. I am thrilled to learn about how to work with different vendors and staying on top of each clients’ needs. By the end of this summer I hope to gain valuable experience with what it takes to bring an idea into a reality for not only the client but for everyone who will attend the event. I am eager for this summer working at Five Grain Events and cannot wait to see what the future holds.
