Planning Katherine and Erik’s wedding was a cross-country affair! The bride- and groom-to-be were based in New York, and about six months before their wedding, our own Sara Balsom moved from Chicago to Nashville. Luckily, we were working with a fabulous team of vendors we trusted implicitly, and Five Grain’s other Senior Event Consultant, Emily, acted as couple’s “on the ground” planner while Sara flawlessly coordinated logistics from Tennessee. Kat and Erik had the benefit of going from one senior-level coordinator, to two! With FaceTime making “in person” meetings a bit more possible for our out-of-town clients, we were able to seamlessly bring together Kat and Erik’s vision for their big day.
On the wedding day, the ladies started their “getting ready” process at the University Club of Chicago with the expert help of Nika Vaughan Bridal Artists. The bride and her bridesmaids all looked stunning in the gorgeous floral robes Kat gifted to her attendants – another thoughtful touch to this beautiful wedding day!
Meanwhile, Erik and his groomsmen enjoyed lunch in the Billiards Room at the University Club – as you can see from these photos, Erik’s groomsmen had a few practical jokes up their sleeves, including gifting Erik with a satin “Bride” robe to wear while he “got ready” for his wedding day. They also made fast friends with the Club’s resident full-size stuffed bear.
No stranger to travel between Chicago and New York, Emilia Jane Photography was the perfect choice for Kat and Erik! Her classic, romantic style fit perfectly with theirs and Kat and Erik made natural, model-esque subjects. Emilia beautifully captured all the precious moments between family, friends, bride, and groom – including the stunning first look, which took place on the balcony of the University Club overlooking Millennium Park.
Windy City Limo provided transportation for the wedding party as they travelled around Chicago for pictures on the beautiful late summer day. They visited Millennium Park and the Modern Wing at the Art Institute of Chicago to capture some truly amazing photos.
Katherine and Erik used Yellow Bird to help them pull all the print pieces together for their wedding day, from the invitation to the ceremony program and menu cards.
There could not have been a more perfect backdrop for Katherine and Erik’s classic Chicago wedding than University Club of Chicago. The grandiose ceilings, gorgeous stained glass windows, and architectural detail of Cathedral Hall set the stage for the couple’s ceremony and reception. Kat and Erik hired an officiant to lead their proceedings, and asked a few close friends and family members to share readings. Beautiful music by Style Matters’ String Theory welcomed guests from the prelude through to the recessional, and the gorgeous décor by Revel added to the supreme elegance of the occasion.
Revel Décor helped bring all the design elements of their wedding day to life – from creating a dramatic aisle and focal point for the ceremony, to cascading bouquets of verdant greens and pops of color. The lush floral centerpieces added to the gorgeous ambiance Kat and Erik created for their guests. They brought in some spot lighting to help bring even more glow into the regal Cathedral Hall, and amplify the look of the incredible floral displays.
Music was extremely important to Kat and Erik, and they wanted to feature several different types to keep their guests entertained and the energy high! Style Matters’ String Theory performed for the ceremony and cocktail hour, while David Rothstein Orchestra prepared for dinner and dancing. Style Matters brought the evening to a close, keeping the dance floor packed, and leaving the guests begging to stay by the end of the night.
David Rothstein generously presented the couple with a giant wagon wheel to have their guests sign as he knew Wagon Wheel by Old Crow Medicine Show is one of their favorite songs.
Studio M Creations created the decals for the thirst-quenching water bottles that Katherine and Erik presented to their guests in lieu of favors. The decal included details about the non-profit run by a few of Erik’s family members, which they then combined with a “hangover kit” fit with a few necessities to help with the aftermath of a boisterous party!
Kat and Erik, we had a blast working with you on your wedding day! We hope you remember it as fondly as we do – and are sure that your lives together as husband and wife will be filled with love, laughter, and happiness.
