The Groom’s View: Part 2

January 21, 2016

If you didn’t catch Part 1 of this series on wedding ideas for the Groom, you can check that out here.  For the next topic, we wanted to discuss “the other half” of the wedding party.  So much of the literature out there is geared toward women/brides–it can leave a gentleman getting married feeling like he doesn’t have many options.  So, for our next installment…

Part Two:  Groomsman Gifts

It’s two weeks before the wedding, and you are just now realizing that you need to figure out something meaningful to get from the group of men who are standing up on your wedding day, but you want to do something a little more interesting than your standard tie clip or flask.  Here are a few sites that make that job easy!

Groovy Groomsmen Gifts

Talk about a one-stop-shop!  This site has anything you could think of–and almost everything can be personalized.

Some of my favorites are the Groomsmen Caricature which brings a little whimsy to the day, the Paul Bunyon Man Ax–because what is more manly than an ax??, and the Whiskey Chilling Stones, which Groovy Groomsmen Gifts was kind enough to send me a set of to try out.  They work perfectly keeping your beverage cold without watering it down.  Plus, the set of 4 is more than enough:  I used two in my drink which was plenty, so they double as “markers” to differentiate my nightcap from my husband’s!

Peter Field

Peter Field is an incredible shop based in Chicago’s loop (they also have a NYC location) whose bread and butter is custom alterations.  But, they also make menswear accessories including neckties, bowties, and pocket squares–perfect for groomsmen gifts!  You select from hundreds of color, pattern, and fabric options they have on hand, or even come up with your own to create the perfect accessories for your wedding party.  Plus your groomsmen get a custom-fitted tie to keep forever.  I find this to be an especially great gift for any super-tall friends who often have a tough time finding ties that fit properly!

{BLANK} of the Month Club

The gift that keeps on giving!  If you know your groomsmen’s beverage of choice, you could give them a few months of opportunity to try new varieties of beer, bourbon, whiskey, or gin.  Non-drinkers?  The website Clubs Galore has dozens of different options to consider sending a few months’ worth of (bacon of the month club…I have my eye on you!).

The Groom’s View: Part 1

January 2, 2016

Recently it occurred to me that the majority of a wedding planner’s job is communication.  Our role is to facilitate open lines of communication between all involved parties:  between the clients and their vendors, between one vendor and another, and even between a client and his or her family members or guests.  We need to make sure everyone is on the same page about what is happening with the wedding planning process from start to finish.  Yet, often there is one major participant missing from that communication loop:  the groom!  The wedding industry in general tends to be hyper-focused on the bride (or brides).  From dresses to bouquets to special accessories for your “something blue”, the gentlemen in the equation can often feel a bit forgotten.

I thought it might be helpful to do a few posts geared toward grooms on how they can make their wedding day special as well.

Part One:  What do I do on wedding day?

While women and their bridal party members typically have crack of down start times for hair and makeup activities, many men feel at a loss for what to do with their best guy friends on wedding day morning.  Here are a few fun ideas we’ve seen incorporated.

Straight Razor Shave

Vince hired a barber to come to his hotel room for his wedding to Whitney last spring.  Vince and his groomsmen got a fresh shave on wedding day morning to make sure they looked extra dapper standing at the altar!

Pool Hall

Mickey invited his closest guy friends to the pool hall for a few relaxed rounds before getting dressed for the big event.

Casey chose to play a game of cards with his groomsmen in the locker room of the golf club where the wedding was taking place.
