Find Your Team: The Best Bridesmaids for Your Wedding Day

Hiring a wedding planner is an important decision. Our job is, in a nutshell, to help relieve the stress and tension that can come from the planning process and fast-moving wedding day. We juggle a lot of balls in the air, but (as much as I hate to admit this) we cannot be everywhere at one time! It’s important to have close friends and family around to support you as well—namely, your bridesmaids. As you get ready to start planning your big wedding day, it’s time to think about the best people to help support you as your bridesmaids. As you consider each of your friends, think about what skills or personality they might bring to your bridal party. You’ll want a diverse group as your bridal party to help you get through one of the most exciting, yet most stressful, days of your life.

Think about the strengths you don’t have. If you are terrible at organization, you’ll need to make sure that you have a super organized person as a bridesmaid (even if her main role is making sure everyone has actual read the timeline your planner sends out!). If you need someone to keep you calm throughout the process of planning a big wedding, remember that friend who is always a good listener and add her to your team.

Consider where you truly need help, and don’t be afraid to let your bridesmaids know what help you are looking for from them.

Various personality types that make up the best bridesmaids include:

  • The caretaker who will know when you need a little support
  • The listener who has the ability to talk you out of tailspin when you are stressed.
  • The solver who is able to figure out problems on the fly—make sure that she has your planner’s number at the ready as we will be eager to help as well!
  • The organizer who isn’t afraid to step in whenever you are overwhelmed.
  • The blunt friend who is going to tell you exactly how you look in the dress you want to buy.

When you start deciding on each one of your bridesmaids, think about each role. For example, if you want to buy kimono robes for your bridesmaids, you’ll want someone organized enough to get everyone’s size for you and to place the order so that you don’t have to deal with it.

If you know that you get stressed out easily when you try to make decisions, you’ll want to have one of your bridesmaids be a person that calms you down well. If anxiety is a problem for you, let your calming bridesmaid know that you may struggle with some anxiety as you plan your wedding.

As you prepare for your wedding day, know that, in addition to your planner, your bridesmaids are your team of support throughout your day. Your bridesmaids will be there for you every step of the way, and ready to fulfill their duties on your big day. Choose your bridesmaids knowing how important a variety is when it comes to personality and skill.
