Kelly and her team at Five Grain Events were indispensable to us leading up to and through our wedding day. Seeing that they had worked with many couples at our venue, we reached out. After the initial consultation, I already had two or three pages of advice, suggestions and tips, and felt like a load had been lifted off my shoulders. Though we only got month-of planning, the team provided great recommendation lists and other tips as we needed them prior to their work officially starting with us. I counted down the days until Kelly stepped in two months ahead of the wedding, and as soon as we’d had our official meeting, I was stress-free (or as stress-free as a bride could be!) Kelly and her team were a joy to be around on our wedding day, helped smooth out any small fiascos (like getting a tomato stain out of the front of my dress!), helped set up and tear our personal items beautifully (see the name plate table!) and went out of their way to not only take care of us, but our family and guests in ways both big and small. If you’re questioning whether a coordinator is worth it, my husband and I would emphatically say yes – and all the more so with a professional, well-connected and well-experienced team like Five Grain Events! Being a part of Haley and Joe’s wedding last August was such an honor. From our first meeting, it was apparent what an incredible celebration of two extraordinary people the day was going to be and we loved every second of it.
Haley began her prep at the St. Jane Chicago with her sisters and mother. The ladies eased into the day with hair by the talented Rare Bird Beauties and makeup by the lovely Andie Cumber. The morning was quiet, relaxed, and reflective as Haley put on her jaw dropping dress with the help of her mother and sisters, then shared a special moment with her father. Flowers For Dreams delivered the most amazing florals and Angela Renée Photography was there to capture each precious moment and detail.
Meanwhile, Joe was down the hall also enjoying a quiet moment before getting ready and heading up to the rooftop to see his bride for the first time.
Despite the rainy morning, the rooftop of the St. Jane Chicago was the perfect private spot for Haley and Joe’s first look. With incredible Chicago views, the couple read vows they wrote to one another aloud and took some time together to savor the excitement of the day. They then headed off for photos with their wedding party and families at Artifact Events, taking advantage of all its unique space and character.
A truly magical space was created for Haley and Joe’s romantic ceremony. Flowers For Dreams designed stunning florals and lined the stairs and aisle with greenery and rose petals, I Love Lamp Lighting perfected the atmosphere with uplighting and café lights, and guests were greeted by the amazing sounds of String Theory Chamber Ensemble.
After the ceremony, guests moved to cocktail hour and on to dinner where they enjoyed always delicious bites from Hearty Boys and wonderfully touching toasts from Haley and Joe’s families.
After dinner guests moved in for dancing, which included the sweetest choreographed dance by Haley and her dad and a traditional Croatian circle dance as a nod to Joe’s family. Guests enjoyed a delightful dessert spread by Hearty Boys, a photobooth by Shutterbooth, and a packed dance floor thanks to Style Matters.
Haley and Joe, it was truly a pleasure. Congratulations again and we wish you all the happiness in the world!
Jahnavi and Raghav’s wedding day was bursting with love and joy, and we feel so lucky to have been a part of it. We loved getting to know these two and their wonderful families.
The day started out at the Conrad Chicago, where the ladies got their hair and makeup done by Tamara Hair and Makeup Artistry, and their saris wrapped by Unnati Shah. Both sides were having a blast spending the morning with their closest friends and family.
Lilly Photography took group photos as the Five Grain team headed to Ovation to get everything set up. Exquisite Designs brought the space to life with all the beautiful decorations and vibrant colors.
Infinity Transportation took the wedding party from the hotel to Ovation, and we kicked off the ceremony with the Baraat, where loved ones danced and celebrated with Raghav down the street as Dholmaster Sherlock played music. Raghav was then greeted at the venue with a welcome plate.
Dhruv Sharma led the ceremony, and then guests enjoyed delicious food from Ashyana Banquets and drinks from Prestige Wine & Spirits. The mother of the groom, Savita, even surprised the couple with a cake from Amy Beck Cake Design!
After dinner, Style Matters got every guest out of their seats and onto the dance floor, and the party really began!
Jahnavi and Raghav, we enjoyed every minute that we spent with you during this process, and we are still dreaming about your beautiful wedding day. Here’s to a lifetime of even more love, laughter, and adventure!
We were so excited to partner up with a5 branding and digital and the Rogers Park Business Alliance last summer to put on an incredible Chicago street festival–Chalk Howard Street! We loved getting to know the Howard Street neighborhood as we worked on this event throughout the first half of 2019. It is an extremely diverse and artistically charged area–over 80 languages are spoken and the plethora of ethnic cuisine dining options is a clear illustration of that. And it’s so easily accessible from anywhere in Chicago via CTA red line.
While there was certainly a ton of work that came along with this first-year festival, we were extremely proud of the result: an event truly reflective of the vibrant community of Howard Street in Rogers Park. We love these photos that Chris Guillen Photography took showcasing the day’s festivities.
The week leading up to the festival was one of excitement and preparation. Along with a5, we prepared our festival headquarters and began marking off the streets for our artists and vendors so that when festival day came, we were ready for anything that might come our way.
On Friday, the day before the festival, professional artists began to arrive and start working on their pieces. As we saw the pieces begin to come together, our anticipation increased to see what our 2D artists, Jennifer Chaparro, Chelsey Austin, Beth Niemczyk, and Jessi Queen, along with our 3D artists, Nate Baranowski, Anat Ronen, Craig and Jamie Rodgers were going to create!
The morning of July 20th came with a flurry of activity. The Five Grain Events and a5 teams both arrived bright and early to begin festival set up. Before we knew it, the artists had arrived and begun working, the smell of delicious food was wafting over from the vendor booths, and the first band was warming up, ready to begin playing for the crowds that would soon be flooding through our entry tents!
When 11 am hit, the festival officially began and we were overwhelmed with just how many smiling faces were on Howard Street, marveling at the street art, eating and drinking, enjoying the music, and visiting the local businesses nearby. Despite the official heat warning put out by the city of Chicago, the turn-out was fantastic and we were thrilled to have counted about 3,500 attendees!
Around 5 pm, the temperature suddenly dropped and dark rain clouds rolled in. Though the respite from the intense heat was welcome, we knew it was an ominous sign for weather to come. The full production team raced around securing plastic tarps over the artists’ works before the deluge began. Festival attendees ran, laughing and smiling, into the local businesses to sit down for dinner and a drink.
The rain finally let up about an hour later. Though the food and merchant vendors had packed up their wares, and the stage equipment had gotten too wet to safely continue amplified music, dozens of attendees waited with bated breath to see whether the street art had survived under cover. Thankfully, most of the professional artists’ work had been preserved, and people were able to continue appreciating the art, brick-and-mortor local businesses, and even the serendipitously scheduled Four Star Brass Band through the remainder of the evening.
Despite the crazy weather we experienced throughout the day, we had an incredible time pulling together all the details for this one-of-a-kind event. The biggest reward was seeing all of the Rogers Park neighbors come out to enjoy Chalk Howard Street with friends and family. A big thank you to everyone who helped us make this day possible, and we hope to see you all at the 2020 Chalk Howard Street on Saturday, July 18th!
Christina Reis is AMAZING!!!
My husband and I worked with Christina for wedding coordination for our October 2019 wedding and from our very first meeting, she completely put us at ease! She’s incredibly kind, resourceful and creative. She can think big picture while also managing every tiny detail—I don’t know how she does it. A few months out from our wedding, she took over all communication with our vendor team, ironing out timing and final details. She was the main point of contact for all questions, which freed up our time so we could put energy into other things, instead of the small issues that inevitably come up.
She kept our wedding party informed (but only on the important things) so everyone knew where and when they needed to arrive. She helped with tricky things like corralling family members for the rehearsal, and wedding day pictures, and even handed out tips at the end of the night.
The day went off without a hitch and we ended the night in our hotel room where she’d secured our gifts, wedding cake and a large Chicago deep dish pizza 🙂 We were in heaven! We were so lucky to work with Christina and are so grateful for her direction, care and friendship. We would recommend her and the Five Grain team to anyone! Christina, thank you for handling every thing, so we could relax and enjoy our wedding day completely!
