A Final Farewell to Colleen

September 6, 2018

Colleen ended her internship last week and we miss her already!  Here she reflects on her experience interning at Five Grain Events…

Where has this summer gone? I cannot believe my internship with Five Grain Events is already coming to an end. My time as an intern has been more than I could have hoped for. Joan and her team went above and beyond to help me learn all about weddings and the strategic planning that goes into each one. Over the course of the summer I got to spend two days a week in the office with Joan observing and helping with all sorts of behind the scenes work. On office days I not only had the chance to handle behind the scenes social media, blogging, and record keeping — but I had opportunities to sit in on all sorts of meetings, business calls, and got to observe Joan as she worked her wedding and event planning magic. In each situation I had time to take notes and ask any and all questions to ensure I was learning as much as I could about what exactly they do.

Going into this internship I had already worked on the vendor side of weddings and special events for over two years as the manager of a chiavari chair rental company — this was my chance to be a much larger part of someone’s big day. When my first wedding finally arrived at the Chicago Cultural Center (a venue I had been to many times as a vendor) I knew I was in my element! From that day on I realized this was the career path for me. Each wedding this summer showed me again and again just how much I love the job! Being on scene each time to make sure EVERY detail of the day went off without a hitch so that the couple was sure to relax and enjoy themselves was such a rewarding feeling.

I cannot thank Joan, Kelly, Emily, Theresa, Christina, and Jennifer enough for giving me such an amazing opportunity this summer. They have each helped to open my eyes to a whole new side of events and I am so grateful! Besides all the learning, I had the absolute privilege of meeting six new strong, smart, kind, hilarious, and generous friends! I can’t wait to continue assisting these lady bosses throughout the rest of this wedding season! Thank you Five Grain Events!
